Fields of Application of Mitochondrial Medicine
Mitochondrial medicine (MitoMed) offers a wide range of applications and is based on specific active ingredients – also known as Mitoceuticals®. You can find more about the basics in the MitoMed concept and in the overview of active ingredients.
Anti-Aging
Skin aging is a clear sign of growing older. It begins as early as age 25. Getting older while staying beautiful and vital is primarily a question of energy. This energy is continuously produced in the mitochondria, the "power plants" of our cells.
Q10 (ubiquinol / ubiquinone) is a key substance in the mitochondria and can be produced by the body itself. However, the ability to manufacture this endogenous substance declines continuously from about the age of 30. In addition, B vitamins, vitamin C, and magnesium are important for a normal energy metabolism and for reducing tiredness and fatigue.
Furthermore, free radicals can impair energy production and cause damage to cell structures. Vitamin C, selenium, zinc, as well as manganese contribute to protecting cells from oxidative stress. At the same time, zinc supports the maintenance of normal skin, hair, nails, bones, vision, and cognitive function.

Energy & Performance
All 90 trillion cells in our body require energy, whether for heartbeat, muscle activity, breathing, mental activities, growth, or regeneration. This energy must be continuously generated to remain productive. Under additional strain, such as stress, illness, or excessive exercise, the energy demand increases.
A key substance in the mitochondria, the "power plants of our cells," is Q10 (ubiquinol/ubiquinone). Q10 is produced in almost all cells of our body. Initially, ubiquinone Q10 is formed, which is then converted into the active form ubiquinol Q10 in further steps. However, our body's ability to produce Q10 itself declines continuously from about the age of 30. A Q10 deficiency can be compensated for by supplementing with Q10. In this process, ubiquinol, the active form of Q10, is significantly better absorbed by the body and can take effect immediately.
For a normal energy metabolism, all B vitamins, especially B2 and B3, as well as vitamin C, magnesium, and manganese are important. Vitamin D3 supports normal muscle function, and the omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA contribute to normal heart function (from 250 mg EPA and DHA) and normal brain function (from 250 mg DHA).

Heart & Circulation
Hats off to the heart! This tireless muscle constantly pumps blood through the body so that all cells and organs are supplied with nutrients and oxygen. At rest, it beats about 100,000 times a day, and significantly more under strain or during exercise. For this pumping function, the heart requires a great deal of energy, which is produced almost entirely in the mitochondria, the "power plants" of our cells.
A key substance in these mitochondria is Q10 (ubiquinol / ubiquinone). Without Q10, the mitochondria cannot work. For a normal energy metabolism, all B vitamins, especially B2 and B3, as well as vitamin C and magnesium are important. To generate energy, the heart muscle primarily burns fats. For this, the fatty acids produced during fat breakdown must be transported into the mitochondria with the help of carnitine.
Furthermore, the two valuable omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA contribute to the maintenance of normal heart function when at least 250 mg are consumed daily. With a daily intake of at least 2000 mg, they also support the maintenance of normal triglyceride levels.
Suitable products: Heart & Circulation
Immune System
The immune system is a highly complex and sensitive defense system in our body consisting of various cells and organs such as the bone marrow, thymus, spleen, tonsils, lymph nodes, and special blood cells. Its task is to ward off pathogens and destroy defective endogenous cells. This requires a great deal of energy. This energy is primarily produced in the mitochondria, the "power plants of our cells."
Q10 (ubiquinol / ubiquinone) is a key substance in the mitochondria and is produced in almost all cells of our body. The body's own production declines continuously from about the age of 30. However, a Q10 deficiency can be compensated for by supplementing with Q10. In this process, ubiquinol, the active form of Q10, is significantly better absorbed by the body than ubiquinone Q10 and can take effect immediately. In addition, all B vitamins, especially B2 and B3, as well as vitamin C and magnesium, are important for a normal energy metabolism.
Vitamin C, vitamin D3, vitamin B6, B12, and folic acid, zinc, selenium, and copper contribute to the normal function of the immune system. The mucous membranes of the respiratory tract also play a significant role as a barrier against microorganisms. Vitamin B2, vitamin B3, and biotin support the maintenance of normal mucous membranes. Furthermore, immune cells must divide and develop rapidly when the immune system is activated. Zinc is important for normal DNA synthesis, which is necessary for cell division.
Free radicals are also usually produced during immune reactions. The antioxidants vitamin C, vitamin B2, zinc, selenium, copper, and manganese contribute to protecting cells from oxidative stress.
Suitable products: Immune System
Nerves & Brain
Nerves and the brain fire countless signals through all regions of the body every second. This requires an exceptional amount of energy. The brain alone consumes about 20–25% of the body's total energy, even though its mass accounts for only about 2 percent of body weight.
The energy is generated in the mitochondria, the "power plants" of our cells. A key substance in the mitochondria is Q10 (ubiquinol / ubiquinone). There, in the "power plants of our cells," 90% of our body's energy production takes place. Without Q10, the mitochondria cannot work.
For a normal energy metabolism, all B vitamins as well as vitamin C and magnesium are important. They contribute to normal functioning of the nervous system and psychological function, as well as to normal mental performance. Furthermore, the omega-3 fatty acid DHA supports the maintenance of normal brain function when at least 250 mg is administered per day. And zinc is known to be important for normal cognitive function.
Suitable products: Nerves & Psyche
Stress
Under stress, body functions such as heart activity, brain function, and blood flow to muscles and organs are increased. This requires more energy. This energy is produced in the mitochondria, the "power plants" of our cells.
Q10 (ubiquinol / ubiquinone) is a key substance in the mitochondria. Without Q10, the mitochondria cannot work. For a normal energy metabolism, B vitamins, especially vitamins B2 and B3, as well as vitamin C, magnesium, and manganese are important.
In addition to increased energy consumption, chronic stress usually also entails an increased consumption of vital substances. If there is a lack of important substances such as Q10, B vitamins, vitamin C, magnesium, zinc, selenium, alpha-lipoic acid, and antioxidant enzymes, this can lead to an increased susceptibility to stress. At the same time, harmful radicals can usually no longer be sufficiently neutralized.
Often, the immune system is also weakened under stress. However, its normal function can be supported by vitamin C, vitamins B6, B12 and folic acid, vitamin D3, selenium, and zinc.
