Questions and answers
What is the source of the beta-glucan in MitoGlucan®?
The beta-glucan is derived from baker's yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) and produced in Germany.
What is beta-glucan?
The beta-glucan contained in MitoGlucan® is a dietary fiber that occurs in nature primarily in the cell walls of yeasts, grains, fungi, and bacteria. Our body does not possess enzymes to break down beta-glucan; however, dietary fibers can be metabolized by certain microorganisms in our gut flora.
There are various beta-glucan products on the market. How does MitoGlucan® differ from others?
Depending on the source of the beta-glucan, its building blocks are linked differently, which results in different properties. The glucose subunits in the beta-glucan derived from yeast, for example, are linked by β-1,3/1,6-glycosidic bonds, whereas the subunits of cereal beta-glucan consist of β-1,3- and β-1,4-linked glucose molecules.
