Disorders of energy production in the mitochondria, known as mitochondriopathies, are being diagnosed increasingly often. They represent a heterogeneous group of disorders that are characterised overall by a defect of oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) or by other changes in mitochondrial structure and function.

The mitochondria, known as the “power plants” of the cells, are a decisive component of general health.

Yet their importance is often underestimated. About 50 % of all known diseases that affect mitochondrial energy metabolism are attributable to complex I defects.

Riboflavin, niacinamide and ubiquinol effectively activate the mitochondrial respiratory chain and demonstrably support energy production. In many mitochondrial disorders associated with a complex I deficiency, these Mitoceuticals can be used as complementary or additional treatment options. In order to produce a therapeutic effect, the correct dosage is decisive.
