Why is OcuMit® important for my body?

Properties of the ingredients

Cell metabolism is based, among other things, on the functioning of the mitochondria, in which energy is obtained from our food. Ubiquinol Q10, taurine, alpha lipoic acid, vitamin B3, zinc, selenium, copper and manganese belong to the mitotropic substances that occur in the mitochondria and are therefore also called Mitoceuticals®. The two carotenoids zeaxanthin and lutein are pigments that occur in the retina.

Lutein and zeaxanthin are:

  • carotenoids
  • found in high concentrations in the macula (yellow spot) of the retina

Ubiquinol Q10 is:

  • found especially in the mitochondria, the "power plants of our cells", where vital energy is produced
  • an important component of the mitochondrial and cell membranes, which are involved in the exchange of substances and information between cells

Taurine is:

  • a sulphur-containing compound that occurs naturally in the body
  • found especially in the eyes, brain, heart, muscles and blood
  • located inside the cell, especially in the mitochondria and in membranes.

Alpha lipoic acid is:

  • a sulphur-containing fatty acid that occurs naturally in our body
  • uniquely present in aqueous as well as fatty cell areas
  • found mainly in the mitochondria

Niacin (vitamin B3) contributes to:

  • normal energy metabolism
  • the reduction of tiredness and fatigue
  • normal functioning of the nervous system
  • the maintenance of normal mucous membranes and skin.

Zinc contributes to:

  • the maintenance of normal vision
  • normal vitamin A metabolism
  • protection of cells against oxidative stress
  • normal acid-base metabolism
  • normal function of the immune system
  • maintenance of normal skin, hair and nails
  • normal metabolism of macronutrients (carbohydrates, fat and protein)
  • etc.

Copper contributes to:

  • normal energy metabolism
  • protection of cells against oxidative stress
  • normal function of the nervous system
  • normal hair pigmentation
  • normal iron transport in the body
  • normal function of the immune system
  • etc.

Manganese contributes to:

  • normal energy metabolism
  • protection of cells against oxidative stress
  • normal formation of connective tissue

Selenium contributes to:

  • protection of cells against oxidative stress
  • normal function of the immune system
  • normal thyroid function

Frequently asked questions

OcuMit® contains ubiquinol Q10. Is this the already bioactive form of Q10?

Yes, ubiquinol is the bioactive form of Q10. It is absorbed by the body much better than the "conventional" Q10 (ubiquinone) and can act directly.

Can the body produce lutein and zeaxanthin itself?

No, these two pigments must be ingested with food, as they can only be synthesised by plants.

Does taurine stimulate the body because this substance is also contained in energy drinks?

There is no evidence that taurine has a stimulating effect. It is a substance - an amino sulphonic acid - that also occurs naturally in our body, especially in the "power plants of our cells", the mitochondria.
