Why is reduced L-glutathione important for my body
Properties of reduced L-glutathione
Cell metabolism is based, among other things, on the functioning of the mitochondria, in which energy is obtained from our food. Reduced L-glutathione belongs to the mitotropic substances that are important for the mitochondria and are therefore also called Mitoceuticals®.
Reduced L-glutathion is:
- the bioactive form of L-glutathione that occurs naturally in our organism
- composed of the three amino acids glutamic acid, L-cysteine and L-glycine
- important for the mitochondria, the "power plants of the cells", in which energy is produced in the form of ATP
- present in high amounts in the liver, kidneys, pancreas, spleen and eyes
Possible causes for an increased L-glutathione requirement or deficiency:
Lifestyle
- Stress
- High physical strain
- Low-protein diet
- Reduction diets
Organism
- Intake of certain medications*
- Old age
In case of diseases*
- Trauma
- Chronic fatigue syndrome
- Ulcerative colitis
- Cancer
- Sepsis
* This refers to a possibly increased nutritional requirement and not to the alleviation, cure or prevention of a disease.
